Which direction for DJing should I choose?

I would like to become a hardcore techno and trance DJ and I was wondering if it would be better to use two laptops and a mixer or two cdjs and a mixer. I already have two laptops but a lot more professionals seem to use CDJ's. I can't tell which is more quality and better to use. Also if you think laptops make sense for DJing then what programs would be recommended?

Google Traktor, Ableton and serato. Don't say anything until then.

I've researched these three but is there one you recommend more than the other? Also would you recommend the laptop set up or CDJ?

I'm laughing more at the TWO laptops part of the post. lol.

In all seriousness, I started on vinyl, played it for years, and then sold it all when I moved to the other side of the country.. grabbed a pair of CDJ's and played them. not alot of a difference (well there are some obvious ones) but the concept was the same except that I wasn't lugging around crates of heavy vinyl and buying music was hell of alot cheaper. Later on I found it easier to not burn CD's anymore and just use Torq (an alternative to serato) and played the music the SAME way i did with cdj's and vinyl but the music was coming off the computer rather then wasting money on blanks.

In the end it is the same shit and you just need to figure out what works best for you.

So does that mean I just need one laptop? What else do I need besides one laptop? Do I need a mixer anymore and if I do then what do I mix into the second channel if one is taken by the laptop??

If you want to spin on a laptop... yes, one would be typical.

What else do you want? What do you want to be able to do?

Need? No. What do you WANT?

The software, a controller controlling the software, or an audio interface supporting multiple outs to go into a mixer.

Not qutie enough it sounds like. It's all a matter of preference dude. Take time to investigate and understand the options, so you can see which one appeals most to what you are trying to achieve before you go buying equipment.

I want to be able to mix just one track into the next and do it in a way that won't cost me too much. I want to do the mixing for a group of about 50 people. I want to have speakers that make it all sound great. I also want the option of video output to a screen for visualizations and stuff.

Thanks for the help .

There really is not cheap way out for quality, but basically if you are keen on using your laptop , you will need to use some sort of DJ software and possibly a all in one controller such as Xponent, Hercules RMX (both of which have a built in soundcard) or something.

Basically, the software emulates 2 decks and a mixer and the controller "controls" the software. Get it?

goto youtube and search each one of these m-audio xponent, VCI-100 , Hercules RMX.
