Wasn't able to make it down to lovefest until late afternoon, my girlfriend didn't want to get out there early and I didn't blame her, this is actually one the the first years we haven't been working at the parade or after party so it was nice to chill out for a change.
As we approached civic center the sound could be heard blocks away and since I live up hill from civic center we had a good view of the crowd which was massive... wall to wall, corner to corner, the whole place was packed! First stop was the opel/qool float where syd gris was throwing down some sick progressive and funky electro tracks but it doesn't matter what Syd plays his music is always fresh and inspiring... we stayed for his whole set because the music was rockin and we ran in to lots of friends there.
After that we walked around for a bit and ended up over at the Spundae float, not sure who was playing but it was so packed that there was no way to stand in front of the float so we just hung out on the sidewalk for a bit, getting pushed around by drunk and messed up people before deciding enough was enough and we headed off to get some coffee around the corner.
Starbucks was swamped with festival goers, it actually looked like a raver invasion! man I wish that I hadn't left my camera at home because it was a sight to behold. a line for the bathroom stretched out the door. there were easily 20-30 people in line for the bathroom alone. the store manager was trying his best to police the line because the bathroom was for "customers only" but it was futile, no one was paying attention to him... the poor employees looked haggard, it was like their first day on the job or something... they were clearly not prepared for a day like the one they had just experienced but they managed to take our order and we got our caffine fix before heading back to the spundae float.
As the sun was close to setting some of the crowd had started to disperse, making a little room in the crowd off to one side of the float where we found room to stand, kyau and albert began their set just as we arrived and the crowd was going crazy. Before long we were surrounded by friends and people we know from the clubs here in SF and it was fun to see everyone and share the experience! above & beyond followed KvA, the music was great and time just flew by... cell phone communication was a disaster, I suddenly had over 30 txt messages dumped on my phone that people had been sending me all afternoon and clearly some of my own outgoing txt messages had been delayed as well, we made a beeline for an exit right as a&b finished their set, and headed off to Chevys a couple blocks away just in time to nab a booth. Score! Darin Epsilon and Dj Samer joined us for dinner and kept the conversation interesting. the service was terrible but Chevys was so crowded I really can't blame them, the staff was clearly overwhelmed.
Over all we were only at lovefest for a few hours time but it was jam packed with great music and lots of friends.
We had a great time... I hope everyone else did as well!
