My MDR-V700s have gone to hell and it's time to buy some new headphones. I've had my V700s for over 3 years and loved every moment of them.
So what are they new, popular type of headphones that everyone's rocking? I was taking a look at the new Xone ones, are the worth the price? I really only want to spend around $150. (I do realize that Xones are $300)

I had V 700's which broke, so I switched to 7506's about a month ago, based on that other headphone thread. The sound is definitely much superior, and they're really nice to just wear on your head.
My only complaint is that the cups don't swivel very much so they are pretty awkward to wear around your neck. It took a bit of getting used to, but its not that bad. It just depends on your style.
I have a set of Pioneer HDJ-1000's and I like them.
But everyone and their mother praises how good those Sony headphones are.

i bought the xd53 today
i tested the pioneer 1000's, 7506 AND the xd53
pioneer sounded much clearer, bassier than the 7506 but i found the earpieces a bit flimsy... a bit too skinny
the 7506 sounded great but when compared to the other two they didnt stand up
i settled for the 53 because between the 53 and the pioneer 1000's i found the sound on the a&H model to be about 15% bassier and clearer
this is just my opinion though
different strokes for different folks

I think the thing I like about the MDRs is that they have accurate sound. Other headphones I've tried try to sell you by having punchier/deeper sounding bass (such as what the poster above noted). However, that's really not accurately representing the sound, and, in the long run, it doesn't sound as good. Buy the MDRs, they have everything you'd ever need.

Low budget - MDR 7506
Medium-ish budget(yours) - SEnnheiser HD 25 mk2
A little bit more expensive than the hd25 mk2 = XOne XD 53
Those are basically the three headphones that stand out for me.

I own the Hd 25's and the XD53's.
At the moment I way prefer the HD25 cans.
Tighter fit around my ear, the sound seems fuller and I don't have to crank up the volume as much either.
I'm going to give the 53's another go in a while and see how they fair but at the moment I still love my Hd25's.
Haven't had a chance to try the 7506s though. Would love to hear what they sound like.
