I remember when this album came out and I was familiar with individual tracks from it but I finally pulled it off the shelf and gave it a cover to cover listen. Great album, reminiscent of a different era of hip hop, specifically pre Death Row. Lots of gems on this album as well, like Party for your Right to Fight, Show Em Watcha Got, Security of the First World, and Don't Believe the Hype. This is definitely an album I should've given the full listen treatment awhile ago.

Anyone else enjoy this album, remember it, or still listen to it with any type of regularity? It's the type of thing that should be recommended listening for anyone who believes hip hop has always been about self-aggrandizement and promotion.

Would love more recommendations as far as other solid albums from the mid to late 80s hip hop scene.

nation of millions is one of the most brilliant rap albums ever recorded. p.e.'s followup, 'fear of a black planet,' was also tremendous. if you like the layered, sample-heavy production of the Bomb Squad, check out their work on ice cube's "amerikkka's most wanted." the dust brothers worked similar production wonders on the beastie's "paul's boutique."

Love this album. "Black steel in the hour of chaos" and "Rebel without a pause" are my favourites of it. The whole album really gives you that special "raw rap" feeling. brilliant
