High school- the best times of your life?

Anyone else been told this at one point or another during their adolescence? That high school marks the best times of their lives?

I've never been able to buy into this. Sure, there's numerous advantages that generally exist during this point in comparison to adulthood, but it's all largely insignificant to the benefits and experiences yieled by everything after high school.

Incidentally, it was my junior year history teacher who said essentially said 'your high school years are NOT the best years of your life. The best years of your life are when you're actually out in the world, doing your own thing, making money for yourself.'

Can't say I disagree. Besides, for many, high school reflects the period of time they would rather forget.

Curious as to other perspectives on this...

Alright, check out the awesome search tools I've got to work with: high school, best, times, life.

Even then, there's no accounting for various punctuation here and there. So rather than search, I decided to take my chances and post.

You're bound to get some reposts on generally worded threads like this man! Life goes on...

Is there anything left to talk about on TA?

In high school you have some adult privileges like driving without any corresponding adult responsibility. Also, you start to realize that a lot of people worry a lot about money, but if your parents are pretty well off you yourself have no need to worry about money at all. And this is also the time when many people start to have their first relationships or their first ones that they take "seriously." The emotional properties (naivete) and hormonal balance of teens make those first attractions extremely intense.

I think those factors are why people get nostalgic for their high school years.

hardly. college is where it's at. and even life after school isn't bad.

i guess everything has its high and low points... i bet they just call that life in general. i find it difficult to believe that one period of time or another can be described as the "best" in a lifetime. it's a constantly evolving process.

i know some people that say the best time of their life is when their child was born. obviously i haven't got to that point but just imagine the feeling and emotion of creating something that complex.

obviously i haven't experienced enough (and neither have most of us) to make a claim like "this was the best time of my life"... just a thought.

When we were in high school my bf and and I walked to his house every day after school and we'd have sex 2 or 3 times. Then we'd fall asleep in front of the tv until dinner and my mom would eventually come pick me up. Good times.

Another thing is that for people who lived in the same place for a long time and then went off to college somewhere else, high school was the last time that they saw a group of friends that they had known for years and years, or at least the last time they could see those friends regularly. This is another reason for nostalgia.
