RIP Michael Crichton...

My favorite author lost his fight with cancer today at the age of 66. Writer of such books as Jurassic Park, Sphere, Congo, Timelime, Rising Sun, Andromeda Strain, the creator of ER and so so much more is probably the best sci-fi/fiction writer of all time. Partially due the fact that the science in his books is so sound that they almost aren't fiction at all. In fact, some of his books are based on actually events and all involve real science. I have pretty much his whole collection, although I haven't got through them all, and look forward to everyone new release. He will be missed.
Any other Crichton fans out there?

Jurassic Park was and is one of my favorite books. I remember listening to Sphere on audio book as a kid on my family vacation back to Illinois to visit my grandparents. Great author and will be sadly missed.

it's a sad day for all the crichton fans out there.. as an owner of most of his works, i can safely say that the science/technological fiction genre has lost a wonderful author as well as a great social critic. sphere and the andromeda strain remain two of my favorite books all time. RIP =(

I recommend Prey and State of Fear. Those are 2 of his latest. Good stuff. Not so crazy about his last book Next though. Hopefully you have all read Andromeda Strain, which is one of his true stories (scary to think about) and his first book. Another interesting true one is Eaters of The Dead (The 13th Warrior). It's a collection of actual manuscripts. Not one of his most exciting works, but very interesting.
Let me know if you want to borrow anything Travis.

Very true Reese about his books being real - two days ago, Japanese Scientists announced that they had found a way to clone an Animal from frozen DNA (previously thought impossible die to cellular damage during freezing). They are currently working on frozen wooley mammoth DNA and reckon they will breed a living prehistoric animal shortly. They expect what they learn from this to help them create life from fossilized DNA and make the science in Jurassic Park a reality.

RIP to one of the great writers of our time.

Are you kidding?

He actually holds the record for the most novels turned in to movies

1971 The Andromeda Strain
1972 Dealing: Or the Berkeley-to-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues 1972 The Carey Treatment (A Case of Need)
1974 The Terminal Man
1993 Rising Sun
1993 Jurassic Park
1994 Disclosure
1995 Congo
1997 The Lost World: Jurassic Park
1998 Sphere
1999 The 13th Warrior (Eaters of the Dead)
2003 Timeline
2008 The Andromeda Strain (TV miniseries)

He is also the only person in history to have had the international top selling book, film and TV show all at once!

I hate to disagree because he is my fav. But my girlfriend just pointed out to me that Steven King holds the record for books to movies. But Critchon's were much better
Although I will add one. The Great Train Robbery. Which is another of his based on true events.
