Are Job Recruiters Really Cheap Nowadays?

So I've been checking Craigslist quite regularly for the past couple of months. Luckily I got a job last week but I'm still looking for something that pays better. But it seems that if you want to earn a decent salary while being employed by somebody else, you better be a good sales person and earn your commission, otherwise the chances of making a decent salary are slim.

What I mean is, do you think businesses could really only afford to pay the measly $9 or $10 an hour? If they paid 13 or 14, would it really cut into their revenues? For example, check out this posting:

Beginning at 15-20h per week but will grow.
Work involves basic computer work with Adobe Photoshop/Dreamweaver/Premiere, meeting with customers (at the office). Car is required to run some errands (few times a week). Must be able to read/write in French and English.

Pay is $10/hr. I mean fuck, if I'm gonna be asked to apply my photoshop/Dreamweaver skills (which I do have), and to run errands while having to have my own car, there is no fucking way I would settle for $10/hr. It seems to me like employers in Montreal are extremely cheap these days. I actually really regret leaving my last job, where I was earning over $14/hr, but fortunately was not for a regretful reason.

With any entry level position (especially in sales) you have to bite the bullet and prove your worth to make more.

Do you have an education?
Do you have an experience level that dictates a higher salary?

Know how won't get you anywhere unless you prove it and have the references to back it up. It has nothing to do with Montreal, this is the same thing everywhere.

Also, you are using craiglist to job search.

also...go see a job recruiter (RANSTAD,QUANTUM,ADECO,MANPOWER etc...) If you want to make 14$ an hour they will find you a job in a warehouse right away at that salary.

welcome to the real world, it seems you have taken the red pill

1st off buddy, you're in montreal, if you're looking 4 a job thats pays good, you can be lazy and go on craigslist, or you can go apply at the 927843197341896419 restaurants in the city.. anywhere, as long as you look human and you have ok social skills
busboys always make over 10$/hour considering tips at ANY restaurant that has respect for itself
once you get to know how things go, and when you're comfortable, include in your resume some cutting edge restaurants you actually didnt work at, and apply at a cutting edge restaurant. busboys in these restaurants make retarded tips still, 60$ min per shift ON TOP of the salary. if you're a fast learner, social cat, and you have the balls, you can even apply as a waiter in baller ass restaurants depending on how fast you learned. but let's not get ahead of ourselves..

it does not do much in the way of career progression though, which is ok if you want to be a bus boy for life. Sometimes taking a bit less money is worth it if it is something that has potential reward in the long term.

true say yet it really depends on the perspective you have looking for a job.. i mean the restaurant business is imo the best student milieu for fast cash and social interaction, and there actually does give u progression opportunities, i mean, nobody stays a busboy for over a year and if he does, he shouldve understood a while back that this isnt his thing. you do become a waiter (and/or bartender), and again, depending on your performance and understanding of the structure of a restaurant, you will eventually hustle your way fast into becoming a manager. i know a significant amount of managers 40+ who have been in it, have a family, and plan on staying in it.
