Hi, I was just wondering if anybody knew which note would be the best to use in the intro for a trance song. Some of my friends said they were sure it was f# but some said c is really good there! They all said something about that when I wanted the compressor to 'pump' I should use g. I tried it and it really worked, especially when I set a limiter over it, on a pad sound, and used a hp filter with three low pass filters to take out some of the edge on the sound but I used f# and I couldn't say if it was the best sound I was looking for in a well mastered track (T- Racks). Now I'm still stuck, is it f# or g?

I think Paul Van Dyk used to use C for many years, but for his new album he changed to F# ???

you should use 6 instead of 3 low pass filters. many of them really help making your song a hit. and ever tried c and f# together? famous since the middle ages...

No wonder trance sucks nowadays. Producers can't even pick a key to use, they have to ask for help.

WTF?? You seem to have reasonable technical knowledge, so your question is strange. How can there be one key that appeals to all?
Sounds like you are trying to write tunes for the crowd or the A & R dept'. Not good. Write / produce what YOU like.

Actually, you should probably use no notes at all. All of your trance songs should consist of different kinds of unpitched noises: metal scraping against rocks, cats hissing, flatulence, the rustling of clothing, the jangling of a thousand pairs of car keys, silverware thrown down a stairwell, a fan going at high speed, a car's battery failing -- the options are truly limitless, and I'm sure you can think up your own.
I call this avante-garde trance. It is the way of the future.
