Sleep Theory?

What are your guy's techniques for creating very mellow, soothing effects. Namely leads, and pads. I have always found that making sounds like this takes much more synthesizing skill than the more driving pieces. For reference to what I am talking about, you should check out that song "Cloud People" by Sweetback.
More specifically, what makes you sleep? What is the theory behind giving music a sleepy characteristic? This would be an excellent place to post mellow patches and give tips and strategies to synthesizing said sounds.

A hell of a lot of reverb and delay. Lots of white and pink noise too. Very high attack. Long release.

Sleeping pills are good for sleeping, sex is good too. But Deadmau5 is best I recommend you try to combine a little bit of each of these in your music, and don't forget the sidechain.

Warm fuzzy bass.

Wood percussion.

Slow tempo.

Reversed hi hats and cymbols with delays.

Try running some of your aggressive leads, etc through a Low Pass filter with a very low cut off, eq some of the muddiness out of it, and add some delays and verbs to taste.

Pads make a lot of difference too.

Check out KM5's mix of Salt Tank - Sargosso Sea.

That Bassline Pad. Fucking So chilled it's unreal. I love it.

Also notice how this track uses acid, yet it still keeps things chilled.

Hope this helps, but I am unable to listen to your track atm so I can't tell if this is the kinda music you are looking for.

Also I think making use of LFO's to change some of your leads over a long period of time, make them morph slowly adding delays for textures, a simple sine lead with a filter opening and closing drowned in delay sounds so blood good over some deep pads and strings.
