what kind of sound is this?

In this streaming clip, http://www.zshare.net/audio/51424379686d4ab5/ what kind of sound is that? I can kind of make a similar sound using V-station, but it doesn't have that distorted sound. Does anyone know of a distortion plugin that could do this kind of harsh sound? Or what type of sound this is?

I'll take a shot in the dark here (and probably be way off!).

The sound is arped; it's made up of at least one square wave I'd say; and it probably has some noise built right into it (which may account for the 'distortion' you seem to be hearing).

Sounds like a distorted square (or similar waveform) with a stereo delay. The pattern isn't terribly complicated, so I'd just figure out the sequence and then play around with different distortion plugins. Not sure which would be best.
