Well that got me thinking about what it would be like to become a DJ, since the guy I'm making the CD's for is a DJ. Well to get to the point I want to know everything about it, I'll make a list of things I need to know below so it makes it easier and I greatly appreciate any help that you guys can give me .
1. What do I need (All I know is 2 turntables, the mixer thing in the middle, good headphones and obvious vinyl)
2. What are good brand names for products from question 1 (I know Sony Technics is a good brand name at least I heard it was)
My budget is probably about 600$ Canadian but I'm still open minded to spend more
3. What are some good online vinyl stores that I could use without shipping charges reaming me up the ass (I live in Ontario, Canada)
4. Does anyone know any vinyl stores in the Mississauga/Toronto area that I could be going to to get my gear and/or vinyls?
Anything else I should be informed of would also help greatly thanks for any help you guys can give me. |
Try the dj booth forum. To be honest, you'll need a steady job, part time atleast.
I have 2 technics 1200 turntables, a mixer, headphones, and a little over 100 records, and i've spent a couple of thousand already. You'd be surprised at how much money it costs, but its just like any other hobby, you gotta put in the time and $$$ if you really love it.
I suggest getting the gear used. Technics are tanks, they're usually just as good used as they are new, and it'll save u some cash, as they run about $700 CDN + tax EACH, which is already over your budget. :P You can always get cheaper gear, but I have no advice there, since I don't have experience with them. IF you can't afford it, then save up and just play around with computer mp3 mixing programs like virtual turntables, learn how to beatmatch and everything while you get the $$$ for your decks. that's what I did, got my decks last november, and made the transition pretty smoothly.
