i just purchased a m-audio soundcard, plugged my headphones into the output, and noticed the sound was in mono. how or what would i have to buy in order to obtain stereo with headphones?

from what i can tell, the reason it is mono, is because you're plugging a stereo headphone plug into a mono trs jack. two trs jacks on your soundcard = stereo, whereas 1 headphone plug = stereo.

getting a headphone preamp is best. alternatively, you might be able to use a trs to headphone jack cable. the female headphone end may be 3.5mm or the trs sized version. in the second option, your soundcard might not push enough power to the headphones though.
