Ghost Smilie About Global - Fur - Washington, DC ...

A lot of changes came about in the last few days. A lot of people are asking about Global so here’s a few words. (In case you're not in DC. Glow moved back to Fur in Washington, DC and the Global party that we're doing at Fur is being phased out.) The bookings already set up such as Mark Lewis, ATB, Charles Feelgood /Donald Glaude, Matt Darey and Hybrid will be smoothly transitioned over, and promoted moving forward by Glow at Fur.

A little history about Majai, we've kind of been in the background in the DC scene for while before we came over to Fur in 2007. We were basically working on productions and doing some shows here and there. We got involved with Fur when Glow left in 2007 and Global came about. At the time Fur needed some DJ's and direction in the EDM scene, so we came in to aid Fur in getting up to speed with choosing and booking talent. At the time our track "Lightwave" was getting a lot of support, and so we were making contacts with some agents, as well as a few DJ’s in the scene. We also had an idea of what would work that could compliment the DC scene. Five and Buzz were doing mostly house and other electronic acts and since Glow focused mostly on house DJs at the time, with the exception of the big names such as Tiesto, PvD, Armin, Ferry, etc. We thought that maybe there would be some support for the Trance scene. (Why go head to head with Glow who is an established promotion) Then perhaps we could book some of the up and coming DJs or DJs that have rarely been to DC like Sean Tyas, Gareth Emery, Martin Roth, Airbase, Talla 2XLC, Serge Devant, Thrillseekers, Kenneth Thomas… but with all things, a party takes time to build. It takes time for word to spread, and to build a process of promoting and also DJ’s that have not been to DC also take time to build a following. We got to the point where we were doing the promotions as well as the bookings. We were doing shows almost every Saturday night and things were picking momentum, but then it was decided in Spring 08 that the results did not come fast enough, so we would scale it back to 2 shows per month as well as do some co-events such as Fragma / Thrillseekers, Kyau & Albert / Lange etc. This was going ok. We finally got the promotion wheels moving and things were moving well. Most of the parties were busy but not packed. Then this brings us to Fall 2008…Our recent shows such as Robbie Rivera, Darude did well, but with the recent events Fur decided it would be in the best interest to revive their working relationship with Glow.

I thank Fur for many great shows there and for giving us the opportunity as well as many DC locals that we were able to get in there to spin as well. It was wonderful to experience the many great DJ’s that have been to DC in the past year and a half. I always loved the Fur sound system, and lighting. The club is an awesome club! Many of the DJ's particularly ATB loved the design. The guys at Fur have been very professional and we never experienced any problems that were not uncommon in any major venue that could not be easily resolved.

Fur could have easily promoted just top 40 and hip hop and forgotten EDM altogether but they gave us an opportunity. We sort of fell into the position of promoter’s but it was a great time even though stressful at times. It gave me a lesson of what Glow has been doing for many years in DC and we applaud Glow for keeping EDM going as it is sometimes an unforgiving venture but the EDM music and the crowd it brings is worth it. We wanted to help spread the scene in the U.S. This has been one of our goals for a while even before our promotion with Fur, and still is our goal. We have to face it that EDM is underground here in the U.S., so anything we can do to help spread the scene then we will. So hopefully we stirred things up a little. That was our short term goal. For us it is not about which is better House or Trance. We really enjoy both styles, as well as breaks, tech, minimal, etc... But we realized that with bookings there has to be the balance between the known acts and unknown as well as the styles that can pull the middle crowd. So thanks to those that came out to our shows regularly as that helped sustain the party. We can't make everyone happy but we tried our best. The scene still needs work so if you can help it by paying for advance tickets for a show or buying a cd or download every bit helps. Ignore the guestlist once in a while and just pre purchase the tickets. The more the club and promoter make the more DJ's they can keep bringing out. I know the economy is tough so hopefully things will turn around soon. Spread the word, and we’ll likely see you in and around the EDM scene. As for what's next... we'll see

hey man. Nice read. I've only been to Fur once, for the Robbie Rivera night in October, and it was a blast. Love the layout, dj booth, the staff was great. I hope you guys can continue to bring in a lot of those great names you've had in the past.

PS...gotta get you guys up here one of these days.
