i dont think it goes bad...
however, if something near where it was stored or came in contact with it (some sort of bacteria) then it could go bad.

The fact that you thought old, used dental floss was ok, gives me some insight into why you would even start such a thread.

i had apple peel stuck between my teeth, no toothpicks either, otherwise i fully intended to get a new reel tomorrow.
