"Planting seeds that grow into synth patches."

http://www.soniccharge.com/synplant

Synplant is a software synthesizer with a genetic approach to sound creation. Instead of creating patches the conventional way by turning dials and knobs, Synplant lets you explore a world of organic sounds by planting seeds that grow into synth patches. The purpose of this product is to move focus away from the sometimes intricate and difficult process of sound synthesis and instead let you develop sounds by simply using your ears.

You will find that creating synth patches with Synplant will be as easy as listening and deciding what you like and then having the sounds evolve in the directions you desire. Although Synplant is exceedingly easy to use, whatever you do, do not let its relative simplicity fool you. Beneath its straightforward and playful interface you will find a versatile synthesizer of the utmost quality with lots of character. Also, once you are ready to get your hands dirty and dig deeper into the anatomy of Synplant you will have the option to crack open your sound seeds and modify their underlying genetic code.

Interesting idea.

If I had the money to spend I might buy it.

Yeah, i am too broke to buy, but i later this month since i am having so much fun with the demo.

Edit: I have been able to get some really sweet texture playing arpeggios through really long sustained sounds with little attack, not something that has to be done with this synth but i have gotten sweet sound doing that for the last 20 minutes or so.

Edit 2: This thing can create some very usable sounds as well as unique effects. Though the unpredictability means if you have a sound in your head this probably isn't the first thing you would want to turn to. Though when you just mess around on this you can get some cool unique effects to spark you creativity.

In other words go back to twisting knobs?

Isn't that what they were trying to avoid? Sounds interesting though.

Yeah, I doubt this would be ideal for making dance tracks. But I make mostly ambient and weird non-beaty stuff, so I'll probably check it out eventually.

They are sliders actually.

Tried the demo. Synplant is pretty cool. I played with it for about an hour last night. A great concept really, very inovative. It's not so easy to get usable sounds, but it can be done. You can get some way out, weird and complex ambient sounds out of it. I created a few that could be used in dark progressive house. This would be great for media production, such as a soundtrack for a horror or sci-fi Movies. You can create some weird ambient music in real time, by manipulating the stalks. I'm fascinated by this VSTi. If I wasn't strapped for cash, I'd buy it.

I'd like to see a VSTi that creates sounds based on data you input into it, using keywords to guide you to the parameters you need to change. Like if you wanted a pad, you tell it want a soft pad, and it leads you that way, from there you keep building, and guiding the program to what you want. Maybe you could enter something like, "soft pad, strings, phaser", and from there manipulate sliders to change the wave form and other parameters. This would make make sound creation a lot quicker and easier, specially for us who aren't really interested in hardcore sound design.

After having this for about a month, i am surprised buy the usability of this. Honestly, i can get some real nice sounds out of it. Before this synth v-station was exclusively used in all my songs, except for the odd preset from some freeware here and there.

Anyways, i made a little demo song, that ends abruptly then randomly starts again. When making this i got bored of making the arrangement so i left it but somehow i accidentally deleted it so the arrangement is final.

.

All, sounds, except kick drum are made in syn plant.
