Also you could consider SynQ xtrm-1, reloop rp-6000, stanton T.120 (or ST-150). Those and a few others from other brands are internally the same, only different brands and little differences (some have line-out, others only have phono, ...). They can compare with the technics easily (I don't have this from personal experience though, but I read about it a lot). And the biggest advantage is they're a lot cheaper then the technics.
I have the SynQ's and am very happy with them.

They can't compare with the Technics unless a newbie is using them. Generally, the only people who own them are newbies so the reviews are almost always positive as a result. Vicious circle.
Anybody who plays out on a regular basis wants Technics at home.
