Actually I've found that in a lot of cases all thats required is the actual VST dll file. But on the whole I think your right, especially for more complex synths.
Just do a proper reinstall and format both drives.

yeah i was thinking about that too .. but i hate installing windows, theres always something that doesnt work and the hole repatching stuff...but i guess thers no other way
