Adymus - Kaleidoscope Eyes / Luminous Beings [Enhanced Recordings]

Young American producer Adymus fell in love with trance music after hearing a Signum remix in “an obscure Californian Manga store” – and we can count ourselves lucky that he overheard that intriguingly unspecified Signum work as he is one of a rising tide of US producers who are discovering the beauty of trance music and bringing a fresh slant to what was a European dominated sound. Previously more known for a progressive style often with an electro twist – as shown on his remix of Deepwide – Take Me In – his latest, also on the scorching hot Enhanced, is on more of an uplifting tip. Already causing a buzz, and well deserved.
Kaleidoscope Eyes boasts a trademark thunderous bottom end and a short, simple but devastatingly effective chopped vocal sample. The way it builds with luscious pads, sweet plucked melodies and rising euphoric synth lines is expertly done and an absolute delight. The breakdown with its soft choirs is sublime and the lead melody is subtle yet uplifting, smoothly building to a wonderful, drawn out climax with all the other elements complimenting to produce a constantly changing pattern of melodies and sounds. This is a real high quality trancer and shows that Adymus is as adept at this style as his is progressive – more please!
Luminous Beings is more laid back with a low bassline, sweet, flittering melodies and another subtle, well used vocal sample. The breakdown is very relaxing with lovely chilled piano, soon joined by a bright, clear melody that again builds into an intelligent, multi-layered pattern of sounds. Another class piece of trance.
Adymus further cements his reputation as a very exciting producer with this wonderfully fresh EP on the in-form Enhanced label. Their A&R people are definitely doing their job, unearthing some of the best trance of 2009! Kaleidoscope Eyes is the one to go for, effortlessly smooth uplifting trance, yet Luminous Beings is worth checking out for a more chilled option. A gorgeous EP from a producer who surely has plenty more to give! 4.5/5
