lala.com

so there is a website called Lala.com, which allows you to upload your music collection and listen online, so that you have access to your collection all around the world. There are also some social features and the site allows you to easily and elegantly share quality web audio through embedded objects, etc. I'm in the process of migrating my collection.

I was wondering if anyone else had an account. This site allows you to follow others' music uploads and listening so it would be cool to connect with people of similar taste

Looks like an attempt to compete with last.fm

Nice find man, I was just wondering if there was something like this. I bought a bunch of albums off iTunes with this giftcard I got for Christmas and wanted to listen at work. I'll have to set this up later.

What's the point in uploading them? So you can listen from anywhere?

Songza.com or youtube will do that job just as admirably without having to waste time and money uploading your stuff every week.

Besides, I estimate it would take me about 2000 hours or around two and a half months of constant uploading for me to get everything I have digitised online. Instead I could just buy a small portable hard drive or mp3 player and carry it with me everywhere and plug it into whatever computer I'm using.

I always forget my hard drives or sometimes i want a friend to listen to something.

songza and youtube do not have my collection. there are plenty of obscure records that i listen to on youtube, but i find it annoying to operate that site, especially to scrub audio.

lala has a music mover program which does the job quickly and automatically.

it basically functions like a web version of itunes except with some aspects of social networking. playlists/tags/sorting/filtering/etc

plus i really like to share discoveries with my friends and kindred spirits, and i am an anal-rententive organizational freak when it comes to my music

I hate every music library/organisational program I've ever come across.

Just set up an FTP server on your home computer. Should always work fine except in case of power outage or burglary.
