question about graphics cards and external resolution

it really shouldn't be this difficult, but i can't seem to figure out what external resolutions graphics cards support. basically i'm looking at buying a 15" Macbook Pro (not necessarily one of the brand new ones) and i want to be able to run dual monitors with a 22" widescreen (resolution of 1680x1050) in addition to the laptop screen.

is this pretty standard on current graphics cards? my laptop that i have now doesn't support it which is kind of a pain in the ass, but it's also 5 years old.

oh so tempting to just bite the bullet and buy the 17" model.

well you got to run the opitmization card in the serial bang bus port 89 where you will find the IP of 18000 jiggawatts and which point you have to refuckulate the converter back into teleproncter and PA system

hope this helps.

like elFreak said, it should just work...I think it takes the resolution of the smallest monitor which is your laptop's.

I run a 17" Macbook Pro at 1920x1200 and an external monitor at 1680x1050 and it works fine. My boss runs a 15" Macbook Pro and a 30" LED Flatpanel at 2560x1600 with no problem.

Yea, pretty much any laptop that you can buy these days should be able to support full HD resolution.

The only thing to check for is that it has some kind of digital out like dvi or hdmi because i find it looks that bit sharper than vga.

The Macbook Pros have a dual link dvi and they come with a dvi->vga convertor so you are all set.

DVI also converts directly to HDMI with an adapter, but obviously wont carry audio as well.

You won't be able to run any type of widescreen resolution or anything righer or equal too 1600x1200 from a 5 year old card. Upgrade your card. You can try the Geforce 8800 or 7950 or an ATi model of resemblance.
