The bass drum(s) and hi-hats are out of balanced, in the mix, with the low-pitched snares that might work better as part of a stack at a slightly higher pitch. I hasten to add that my critique might have to do, more, with my own stylistic preferences, but insofar as the mix is concerned, the snares' low volume and low-pitch is something that, for me, stood out as atypical. It is also something that I could tolerate, if it were part of an introduction, before the rest of the drums kick in.
For a start, I really like the idea. You might try a more gradual introduction to the drums and interplay that off the lead bass, at the beginning. Again, not a deal killer and if you kept everything as it was and worked from there, I think you'd wind up with a decent track.

First thing i would do is get rid of that metallic snare and change the kick drum to something more snappy, i reckon the kick youve got its a bit too dull. I would also put a bit more variation into the hats, add some grace notes.
+1 on stereo width to the strings, they need to have a bit more presence. I would also personally layer more notes with the strings as well, this would add a drive which seems lacking atm. Honestly, the main synth is the best element here, Work on the rest, good luck

Thank you all for your input. I have taken your suggestions and an updated link is in the first post.
I made the kicks more edgy, changed some of the snares and hats, the mix is better, widened the strings, added a new synth and lots of other little tweaks.
