$64K Turntable ...believe it or not...

“Recession? What recession?” a man might say, before adding his signature to a cheque for $64,000 destined for Angelis Labor, a company that offers the world’s most expensive turntable.

With magnetic levitation running this thing, absolutely zero friction or noise is created. Indeed, the Gabriel turntable is a Ferrari of the turntable world. Actually, maybe it’s more of a Formula 1 car.

The Gabriel is perfect for DJs who need some bling

Talking of Ferrari, the arms of the Gabriel turntable (it can have up to four arms) is made in Modena, Italy in the same factory where they build all those precision parts that go into Ferrari cars.

Magnets are used not merely as a suspension system but also as a way to support the turntable, and the spindle is lifted by the force of magnets while the centering system consists of self-lubricating brass bearings.

The assembled unit weighs over 30 kilos.

I was going to sell my kidney to buy one, but then I visited their website and the 1990 look and feel put me off, and then I had an overwhelming urge to watch an MC Hammer video - ‘Can’t Touch This’ in particular, because, well, we can’t.

Nothing new really. There have always been more than a few turntables in this price class. I use to read TAS and Stereophile back in the day it they were choke full of adds and reviews on gear like that. Go to a high end Hi-Fi show sometime and be prepared to be floored on the amount of money people with stupid money spend on gear. Its very impressive to see though.

I wonder how many of these they sell every year. Probably the same people who buy gold toilets buy these as well.

these are made for playing records on tube-powered electrostats, not dj'ing. i would think the author knew the difference... anyway esoteric audio companies make outrageous products like this not to sell, but to grab the consumer's attention so you think everything they make below it is also quality. the audio world is filled with tools who buy into this stuff.
