Id much rather use normal vinyl (I dont know about cd's, because ive never used a CDJ before)... I love having to replace the vinyl and switching them around, rather than using my mousepad and just clicking here and there on my computer
and serato's vinyl has that really annoying white noise sound

The hassle of having to burn a load of cd's or source vinyl and only have whatever vinyl i've been able to purchase at my finger tips means i'd choose a DVS over vinyl any time.

CDJ's might be the route for you as you can still use Serato or any of the other DVS systems on them as well.

Personally i just don't have the money to go along the vinyl route.

Clicking on a keyboard and all that might be annoying but when I'm playing to my mates or at a party and I'm not restricted to whatever vinyl or cd's i have with me, that's when i love having my laptop and a plethora of options available to me when it comes to track selection and mood i want to set.

The timecode signal 'whine' is annoying, but i rarely play my music quiet enough for it to properly piss me off.

It's a preference thing but i found Serato (now Traktor) gave me that extra interest i was looking for as i was able to play more tracks from multiple genres which i previously wasn't able to do with my 100 strong vinyl collection..

just my 2c

+1

And when you add a midi controller to Serato, the possibilities are endless.

I find CDs to be very convenient because I can carry my headphones and 15 hours of music in my backpack. I wouldn't feel safe carrying a laptop with me. I can definitely see the convenience of Traktor and the likes, but I also enjoy pulling different discs each time.

I code my track listings in my CD case by genre, so I have music for any time of night (day?) at my fingertips at all times.

I guess I'm saying that CDs are the happy medium between vinyl and laptop.

yea, carrying around an expensive laptop can be a detterent...but the advantage of the amount of music you can carry, thus making you a more dynamic dj, almost makes it worthwhile. Lets also not forget that if you use serato on turntables you can now finally use loops etc.
