Wind warning for
City of Toronto continued

Strong winds developing overnight and Thursday morning.

A deep low pressure system currently over lower Michigan will track toward Lake Huron tonight then eastward to Ottawa by Thursday morning.

Rainfall warning:

Rain in advance of the low has spread over much of southern Ontario. For most locations, periods of rain will persist for approximately 24 hours. Rainfall totals are generally expected to be near or in excess of 25 millimetres, with some variability in amounts between regions due to localized heavier showers and potential thunderstorm activity. Due to frozen ground and a melting snowpack, this meets Environment Canada's rainfall warning threshold of 25 millimetres in a 24 hour period. The rain will end from west to east Thursday morning through Thursday evening, with most areas seeing at least a brief changeover to snow before the precipitation ends.

Wind warning:

As the low pressure system passes to the east, a surge of colder air will follow in its wake. Gusty west to northwest winds will affect much of southern Ontario on Thursday, however the strongest winds are expected over an area from the southern Lake Huron shoreline to just north of Toronto and southward, as well as the local area around the Picton - Sandbanks region. Wind speeds in these areas are forecast to reach Environment Canada's warning criteria of 60 km/h with gusts to 90. These strong winds will begin overnight in the Windsor area and spread eastward, reaching Toronto by mid to late morning on Thursday and Picton by early afternoon. The strongest winds will last a few hours at any given locale before moderating somewhat.
