laptop prices going up?

With the economy in such shitty condition right now, I find it strange how laptop prices seem to have gone up.

My girlfriend last summer baught a dell inspiron for $599 which had:

1.8ghz t5600 intel core 2 duo
3gb ram
15" screen
vista home premium
250gb harddrive

nearly 7 months later, which is a long time for computers...the most comparable computer with small improvements you'd expect after 7 months include (dell inspiron):

2.2ghz t6600
4gb
320gb

for $899.

$300 difference. and thats just a typical example. Could it simply be our low dollar now?

Kind of a weird forum to ask this on, but maybe she just got a really good deal. Computer manufactuers love to discount computers for the holidays and such.

a step from 1.8 ghz to 2.2 ghz is a huge one when it comes to laptops.

add to that gig of RAM and 70 gigs of hd space, and it's starting to add up to that 300.

Indeed, and 300 for all those extra specs in my opinion suggests that stuff only got cheaper.

this actually did end up on the wrong forum ...oops.

but over the course of 7 months since stuff is constantly upgrading, i'd expect those upgrades to be roughly balanced into the same price range as the first.

you shouled keep in mind that $599 is not really the market for notebooks. it's the cheapest of the cheapest. and this days this segement is called netbooks.

if you really want to compare notebooks accurate you should compare at least $800 and above.
