Jesse Brooks Bio
Jesse Brooks’ native Los Angeles is a virtual melting pot of sonic variations; punk, rock, heavy metal, ska, new wave, hip hop, reggae and dance all played their respective roles in the soundtrack of his childhood. In high school, he began collecting vinyl and after attending his first rave in 1991, he was sold to the innovative sounds of electronic music.
Circa 1993, Jesse got his first gig, began distributing mix tapes and found himself gigging extensively in Los Angeles’ underground scene. Aside from his residency at the Fresh Produce parties, he appeared regularly at Joy at the Troubadour, alongside Mark Lewis. His two nationally distributed mixes, LA Groove and Fresh Produce, released on V-Wax Recordings, sold an impressive total of nearly 30,000 copies.Behind the decks, Jesse possesses the unique ability to transcend genre boundaries, showcasing everything from breaks to techno, deep house to cutting-edge bang in his wide-ranging sets. “I’ve always wanted to show diversity,” he says. “I’ve always liked different styles of music, but my taste has matured over the years, turning more deep, funky and soulful.” Pursuing the desire to create his own sounds, Jesse ventured into the studio in 1998.
Since then, his remixes and productions have appeared on the seminal San Francisco imprints, Imperial Dub and Kinetic Grooves. Collaborative efforts as Atwater Syndicate have recently been signed to Deep Dish’s famed Yoshitoshi brand. Despite his lengthy DJing career playing alongside the likes of Carl Cox, DJ Dan, Christopher Lawrence, Rabbit in the Moon and Josh Wink, Jesse remains keenly aware of this focus in the studio, which he predicts will carry him to new levels as a DJ.
