My company had some promotional DVDs burned for us a while back and the original footage has gone missing. How can I rip one of the DVDs into an avi or mpg file? Google reveals loads of programs but I'd rather a more 'personal' recommendation from someone off of here if possible. Preferably freeware but not entirely necessary.
The DVD is only about 10 minutes long if that makes a difference in what you recommend (For example, perhaps I could get away with a trial version of a decent program since the footage is so short.)

Is there copyright protection on it? Try to extract it with imgburn and then any converter from there. dvd decrypter is now freeware and will probably bypass the CP if there is any.

www.doom9.org has LOADS of high quality ways to rip the video.
DVDSanta is a good one though that I have used myself. I have heard good things about the one mentioned previously also.
If you can get a copy of CCE (CinemaCraft Encoder) you will have the best results. It is by far the best I have ever used.

yea doom9 has everything u need. I highly recommend DVD Decrypter under the Descrambling / Ripping tools section. It will fail on some newer discs but till works for the majority of them. This was made by the imgburn guys a few years back before they got into legal trouble.

nope they had to abandon the project altogether or go to jail. It still works flawlessly on most discs.
