Everybody complains about how Sony's handheld is 'dead', that the DS has trumped everything it has to offer (...well, it has, but that's not the point), and that the future is non-existent.

Well, Sony seems keen to bring some love to the beloved PSP...by bringing some huge franchises over to the handheld arena.

February 24, 2009 - Remember how lots of people were saying the PSP was dead? Sony just gave them the finger.

Over in Arizona, Sony Computer Entertainment America is hosting its annual Destination PlayStation, a conference for retailers and publishers, and the company just announced some huge news -- LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed and Petz are coming to the PSP; and 2009 will bring an Assassin's Creed and Hannah Montana bundles as well as a new PSP color. As of now, Sony's only releasing the most basic of details, but we're happy to pass along all that we know.

LittleBigPlanet Portable

* Developed by Sony Cambridge in conjunction with MediaMolecule
* New SackBoy adventures with the same play, create, share experience for gamers on-the-go
* Brand new levels and environments specifically created for the platform
* Set for this year

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge

* Developed by Bigbig Studios (the folks behind the Pursuit Force series)
* Set in Alaska
* Also expected to hit the PlayStation 2 platform in Fall of 2009

Assassin's Creed Portable

* Ubisoft's exclusive installment of the franchise
* Set for release later this year

Rock Band Unplugged

* Exclusive to PSP MTV Games and Harmonix
* The first PSP game to include a fully-featured in-game store for DLC
* Coming in 2009

Petz

* Ubisoft's bringing the Petz series to the PSP in 2009
* Expect dogs, cats, horses, hamsters, dolphins, tigers and bunnies
* Yay

* Hannah Montana PSP Entertainment Pack
o Will launch in July
o Includes new "Lilac" PSP system
o Packs Disney Interactive's Hannah Montana PSP game, an exclusive dancing and rhythm action game

Okay....first off, I have no idea how Rock Band is going to work on the PSP. It'll probably be completely different gameplay aside from the console versions; the simple idea of bringing interactive instruments to a handheld is laughable and ridiculous.

Not sure why Petz had to be included...is the PSP really THIS desperate? Either way, good for the casuals and the kids.

The real stuff comes in the form of LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Assassins Creed, and the already well-known Resistance Retribution.

Maybe not quite earth-shattering, but this news is enough to get PSP owners excited again.

Their real problem is bringing handheld games to consoles. I see this as something that is the same thing as Nintendo has been doing since the 80's.

Too little too late Sony. Should of made a move 2 years ago before Nintendo had such a huge dominance. Add to that, they are releasing games that aren't enough or anything close to making people ditch the DS for and switch, lol. How about some originality....a concept that seems non existent anymore.

Lol all those games suck. I have my psp modded best choice but honestly all I use it for is porn

Would an R4 chip allow me to play the Lunar games on my DS?
