It's basically a one voice Prophet 08. I have a Prophet 08 and it's awesome.

I would get it just for BASS but all the other stuff you can do with it is nice also! There is a sweet review on Sonic State did you see it?

Yeah, I just got one a few weeks ago. It's a lot of fun and sounds great. It's also pretty amazing to see how much power is packed in that little yellow box. Programmming pathes from the front panel is not all that easy, but the free software editor makes it pretty easy. And you can assign any of the parameters to one of four freely assignable knobs on a per-patch basis, plus you have four other dedicated knobs for pitch, cutoff, resonance, env attack and decay/sustain, so it's pretty tweakable in real-time. As alanzo mentioned, it's basically a one-voice P08, but it adds two suboscillators for getting phat bass sounds. It's easily worth the $400 (or less on eBay). I actually use the Mopho more than I use my Voyager.

Also, there's a note on the Dave Smith website that they are going to be releasing a VST version of the editor soon.

It sounds pretty cool and you can do a lot with it bla.bla.bla but there are a few things you should know about it. The knobs are worthless and very frustrating to work with. The only useful thing on its face is the PUSH IT button which I use when my midi is messed up in logic and it's a quick way of checking to see why this god damn thing isn't playing. There is no power on/off switch and of course it's monophonic which is what you pay for. The filter isn't all that great but maybe that's more of a personal taste. The two sub oscillators are great and that's what makes the Mopho sound different than the P08. Bottom line is that it's cheap in price but it can make a rich sounding single note, so overall I think it's a great buy if you understand its limitation. If you do more trancy stuff make sure you play with virus snow and nord lead 2x/3 before buying this ugly yellow device.

I've owned pretty much every piece of DSI gear to date - Evolver Keyboard, Monoevolver, P08.... and even Prophet VS (albeit, not directly a DSI but his last Sequential opus) + Korg Wavestation - which is also his creation by tangent.

I am in process of dumping the last remnant of Dave Smith's efforts. From the way the synth is structured to the sound it makes - I was not blown away by any of them. I find that DSI analog equipment lacks the warmth of the analog gear. Granted you can create some squelchy crazy sounds but you can accomplish similar results with soft synths.

With Prophet 08 it went even further than that - synth keys were of shitty quality, encoders were missing notches and you had to constantly peer at LCD to figure out where your parameter stood (good luck trying to figure out your settings by simply glancing), headphone output had horrible hum, even power supply itself was a wart (instead of regular power cable). Craftsmanship was very poor and it felt like a flimsy rush job. How the synth got such accolades is beyond me.

Bottom line, I'm staying away from Dave Smith stuff from here on out. Try to play with it in person before committing any cash to it. Well... maybe if it was selling for $50 or smth...
