mixer/monitor question

i just picked up a pair of some Dynaudio BM5a studio monitors and am looking for the most efficient way to route them.

my M-Audio Delta 44 doesn't have a headphone jack, so i'm currently without headphones during producing...which is a major bummer for me. the process for adjusting volume is kinda cumbersome as well.

im planning on routing the monitors through a little behringer mixer (THIS ONE) i have laying around to give me some tactile control over volume and to give me an option for headphones.

so here's my question: will running the signal through the mixer degrade or otherwise color the audio? i know that the signal coming out of the speakers is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain, but shouldn't a mixer - at least theoretically - be completely passive?

i would be more confident in a higher-end mixer - something like the mackie big knob. but im not gonna drop the cash if i don't have to.

Yes, don't do it.

Get a passive attenuator and a headphone amp. You have 4 outs, so there's no reason you can't do this. SM Pro Audio M-Patch 2 is an all-in one unit.

nice! that m-patch 2 is exactly the type of thing i was hoping for. looks like it might be a pain to track down anywhere other than online, but ill give it a shot. thanks!
