getitng back into the mix

Just after some advice really.

A few years ago i sold off my decks and Vinyl, gave up 6 years of Djing But ever since I've had a burning desire to get back into it.Part of the reason for giving it up was the cost of records and having to wait months for recent releases, but now i got a decent job and since the tracks are available in Mp3/Wav and mixing can be done digital im thinking of getting back into it.

So my question is, what route best to take with starting out again!,i gave traktor a go and it's very easy to mix/the 4 decks seem extreme but good for mashing up tracks.

Abelton live ah i used this for a while when producing but it crashed a lot and gave out some strange midi issues.

Serato seems good but costly.

Will Traktor and a vestax vci 100 cut it ?

cheers

depends on how hands on you want to be. There's little that you cannot do with a vci100 (and a soundcard) plus traktor, but some folks don't enjoy mixing that way. 4 decks - you don't have to use them all but it's sure nice to have them there sometimes.
check out djtechtools.com, that site is pretty much all about the vci100.

Also check out Torq from M-Audio. There's a few packages ranging from software only (add a midi controller), to external control if you still have you TTs, and the Xponent pack which is a more expansive midi controller made for Torq.

Traktor + VCI-100 user here

I'm pretty pleased with this setup right now, it does pretty much what I need it to do, it's easy to carry around, and it's rather cheap. However, I am planning on getting some CDJs in the future and will probably get Traktor Scratch because of it eliminates the hassle of burning CDs, carrying them, etc.

As tubby recommended, go to djtechtools.com and look around to see if it;s what you want

Another Traktor Pro + VCI-100 user here. Everything works on the VCI-100 exactly the way Traktor is set up. You can pretty much do anything with it, but finding the right Midi-Mapping settings is sometimes difficult, especially depending on your comfort of the device.

Oscar if you're planning on just using the CDJs for Traktor controller you should go with a pair of Tech 12's. Cheaper and vinyls the shit!

I'd like to do this someday, how no idea when I'll have the funds though.

Yes, it occurred to me while reading this thread, lol. I'm pretty happy with my current setup but I do salivate at the idea of getting actual hardware.

The good thing is that by doing that you are still leaving yourself the option to use audio/mp3 CDs when you need. If you are only planning to play at home, stick to a midi controller and traktor pro I'd say, but if you plan to go back to the clubs, get yourself a macbook pro, traktor scratch, an audio 8 interface and timecode vinyl/CDs.
