Heya Jah!

Well it seems like a smooth enough transition (only a couple of minor beatmatching mistakes) - how many times did you practice it before finalising the recording? But seriously, it sounds fine to me, but it sounds as though you've made a small mistake in phasing the two songs together. Maybe it's just me, but the melodic entry into punk doesn't seem to flow properly, it seems as though it's out by a bar or beat or something like that.

Mind you at four months, you've done very well to get beatmatching under control - well done!

Just a small question, which I ask everybody who makes a mix, is this done on vinyl or CD?

haha actually i recorded myself practicing today and just took the last transition (mainly cause total recorded was fucking up the rest! ) but yeah that was it :P i know what you mean by the melody doesnt seem to flow but im 99.9% sure i had them phrased matched... but i think my volume levels need work (?)
but yeah thats that... was done on vinyl btw...
and a 200 dollar mtx mixer the bass was clashing a bit too i felt

Yah, I think they're phrased matched, but the entry of the highhat isn't in a normal 16 (or 32) bar sequence.
0:31 is the end of a sequence. You throw the highat in 8 bars later, which is why it doesn't sound as good as it possibly could.

Don't worry about the crap mixer. If you learn on a crappy mixer it'll make a better DJ I guess.

umm..
play with your eqs a bit more..ur gonna have to keep the bass low..esp on the intro to punk..it doesnt mesh well with most records.
its sounds like u qued it in..8 counts to late..or 8 counts to early..either way u wanna put it.
and try to match your highs..not your bass so much.and if there is no highs..imagine them..other than that
sounds great for 4 months
download my mix..
im only at a year

I find beatmatching listening to the bassline the easiest, but once I've got it fairly refined, I use the high hats to make minor corrections. When it goes live, I'm listening to the high hats, cause that'll be out of sync before the bass does.

If you're finding it hard to get the high hats in sync, try increasing the treble EQ range.

Is it true that putting two songs absolutely in sync actually stuffs up the mix? Somebody said something about the highhats adding to make this terrible noise, or something along those lines.

for 4 months that's a great mix

beatmatching is a touch off at one point but you wouldn't hear that on a loud system anyways

but i think you should try to eliminate that "deadair" time in your mix...
like when its just a kickdrum and cymbols and that's when you mix...i personally hate when dj's mix like that...
it completely ruins the energy in the room
i notice a lot of dj's mix like that live and it pisses me off
i try not to ever have just a kickdrum/cymbols at any time during a set...sometimes its inavoidable but i think it keeps the set flowing nicer

its called a safety mix for a reason

I know exactly what you're talking about. Making your mixes right at the end of the song when there is absolutely no melody and all you've got is the bass line of both pieces. It's not technically difficult, because you don't really have to eliminiate many EQ ranges, but IMO it is really boring to dance and listen to. Actually, if the DJ does this live, I usually just stand around for a while waiting for the melody to come back.
