PVD Effect.... Woohoo... I FIGURED IT OUT!!!

Any one of you wanna give me your take on how to recreate this build up effect on Ableton. PVD uses it a lot on build ups.

http://djwoody.com/open/id

He normally does the slow down thing on build ups. And when you're fucked up, that sound fucks with you. Hehehe

The effect I'm after is more noticeable between 5 secs to 11 secs. After 10 secs, it just loops.

yea sounds like it is just slowing down. Don't know if im missing anything else from there?

to automate tempo just right click on the tempo thing and go "show automation".

On the assumption that you're speaking to the drop in pitch without losing tempo and aren't referring to the staccato chord attacks that occur subsequent to it, it sounds like a loop of machinery lowered in pitch while it's kept at tempo over a period of time, thus creating a psycho-acoustically wonky Doppler effect, that because it doesn't really change its timing, screws with ones perception.

It can probably be done in most audio editors using a pitch shifter. In CoolEdit Pro, you can set up a pitch shift over time to a spline of your choosing.

I wish I had CoolEdit Pro.

Yeah, that drop is what I'm talking about. I don't care for the song that's coming in.

Sounds like granular synthesis to me. I'm sure Alchemy could do this, but you'd need to start with the right samples.

It's what Eddie said, a drop in the pitch to create a psycho-acoustic effect. If you tap your feet along the sample, you will notice that it's not slowing down in tempo.

I think having the right samples is a big part of this sound. But, I also think there's more than just a pitch drop.

If you notice it goes something like this...

Tatatatatata taa taa taaa taaaaaa taaaaaaaaaaaa taaaaaaaaaaaa

And then the rumbling comes in and it just loops.

I think Cryophonik hit the spot. It sounds a lot like Granular Synthesis.

Listen to the example on the link below. It sounds a lot like it. They just used a different sample.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granular_synthesis

Now, I gotta research this. I remember a long time ago seeing a video on YouTube showing you how to do it on Reason. I got reason, just never use it. I also remember reading something about BT being behind this technique.

What software can do this?

WOOHOOO

Thanks Cryophonik. You were right on the money. IT IS GRANULAR SYNTHESIS. I took a processed snare hit and using REplayPLAYer 3.2 granular synthesized the shit out of it. IT WORKED!!!! YOU THE MAN!!!

Here's my sample.

I uploaded the snare and the PVD sample here.
