Increasing mixer output volume.

Hey guys. Just a quick question. I have a DJM-400 connected directly to two Behringer Truth active monitors. The problem is, I know the monitors can take a lot more volume and I want a lot more volume but I'm redlining the mixer in order to do it which I obviously don't want to do. Do I just need to put one of these http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHXENTX802 in between my master out and my speakers and then crank that second board's gains up a bit?

Thanks fellas.

I don't have a DJM-400 but I think I remember reading that there is a little screw on the back that also controls the master out volume try that?

Hmm. I'm not home right now but I'll definitely check that out. I seem to remember someone mentioning that about the 600. Not sure if the 400 has it.

that was the first thing i thought of, so i went and checked the pics of the back on the pioneer website

no dice, there's no screw on the back, looks like you might have to run it though another board like you posted

What are the trim controls on the monitors themselves set at?

There are two little plastic switches on the back that change the input from line to phono. You need both those switches and the switch up top to be moved in order for the input volume to be correct. That could be your problem.

Thanks guys. I'll check these options out. Can't believe I didn't remember that there's volume controls on the back of the individual monitors! They're positioned kind of against my wall and I didn't even think about checking the back of them.

I keep mine at 0, can you bump it up if you want to go louder? If so, does this hurt sound quality?

The good thing is there's a limiter built in and a little red light starts blinking on the front if you're peaking.

I'm still at work but I'll give it a shot tonight and see what happens.

cool. I also think the mids and highs get burried somewhat by the lows, I might try bumping them up a little with those switches on the back. Does the Room compensation switch in the middle = the mids???

to be honest, I'm not sure how the switch technically affects the sound. I just have that one flipped according to my setup.
