When dj'ing is the last thing you want to do...
What do you guys do to get back into it? Ive been in a slump if you so want to call it that and have no desire to spin. I recently picked up ableton hoping to get back into it, but the warping of all my tracks has burnt me out a bit...
just looking for advice as to how to kick start the obsession again...

I go and listen to rock or hip hop for a day. The second I throw on some techno I remember why I loved it in the first place.

ableton did the exact same thing to me. it basically destroyed the fun i had dj'ing in the past with just cdj's. so, i said "FUCK YOU ABLETON" and started using CDJ's again. then my mixer broke. and now i can't mix even if i want to
i still use ableton sometimes, for mixing my non dancey mixes. but when it comes to 4x4 shit, i fucking love cdj's. it's just so simple

Kind of along the lines of the above poster going back to cd's I go out and buy a new record. Just putting it on I always think what tunes would be a good follow-up, and then I am motivated again.

Bottom right there's a small tab where you can find all the videos.
I love watching the crowds/Dj/venue and often find myself wanting to get on the decks after I watch a good video/set...
Let me know what you think

If you don't want to mix, why do you want to mix? :P
Just quit doing it. If you stay away for a while, either the desire will come back, or it won't. No use in forcing it.

true...i feel though that even when you don't want to mix, you still gotta keep at it just to keep your "skills" intact. i know ive gone 4-5 months without touching my gear and once i get back into it im all over the place. hell...can barely beat match. lol

Get music your really into and if there's any part of you that still wants to DJ you'll feel like mixing.

I would personally say, ditch Ableton. (My opinion)
I tried really hard to get into but found that there was no 'DJing Joy' in it. The things I loved about being a DJ just were not there for me. And I know a lot of people who have had the same experience.
You could also try teaching yourself a new trick once in a while to keep yourself motivated.
I think the problem a lot of bedroom guys run into is the question of "Why am I doing this?" and perhaps you need to start taking your DJ skills to another level in terms of live performance. It often helps to justify why you are doing it. Not sure if I would still be DJing if I didn't play out, that said after all this time it just seems like work... hmmm not doing much to motivate he he.
Yes, teach yourself something new, watch other DJs for a while and see if you can copy them. Not sure what you do with Ableton, but don't just settle for back to back sets... start exploring.
