Recommend me some turntables please

Hello Guys and Girls,

I started mixing using CDJs but now I plan on getting Traktor Scratch (DUO) in the near future. I will be using the time encoded CDs but am also interested in using the the encoded vinyl to swicth things up a bit and keep it interesting.

Can you guys recommend me some middle-of-the-line vinyl turntables? I am kinda just getting these to screw around with and have some fun... maybe if I like them more than CDJs I will start using them full time and get rid of the CDJs, we'll see what happens.

I wanna spend about 250-350 per turntable... should I go for new TTs or try to pick up some used tech 1200s?

If I buy cheaper turntables (ie. not tech 1200s) is there anythign that I will be missing out on, or are tech 1200s just high quality and last longer? I am a bit of a TT noob and need your guys help!

Thanks!

I'd go high end vestax or used technics. Try to find a seller that is selling a pair of technics that he/she purchased NEW, that way the pair will have similar characteristics. Do not go numarks, the pitch on those feel like... shit.

Go for the used 1200s.

1) They will last forever.

2) They are awesome.

3) They keep their re-sale value, unlike other brands.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. I just gotta find a good used pair!

BTW with regards to the high end vestax... they seem to be just as expensive as the tech 1200s!

I am a poor student... would have to settle for a used pair at best. Not looking to spend more than like 300-350 per turntable.

save is the best thing you can do, and try to avoid used gear, god knows what happened to it.

Yeah, thats why I am trying to decide between used tech 1200s and other cheaper used new gear. Kinda scared of buying used stuff!

I would save up for new tech 1200s but honestly I am getting them more just to screw around with since I will get vinyl as well as CDs with traktor scratch. I wanna pick up some better CDJs in the future as well... right now I am using DN-S1000s (denons version of CDJ200s) but would like to get CDJ800 or somethign somewhere down the line. I like the feel of that big pioneer wheel.

i just bought one for 200 today (in cash in front of a liquor store lol)

and from the best kind of seller - the guy had it sitting in pristine condition with a bunch of other audio equipment and only used it to play an old record like once a year

I disagree with the whole, 'only buy new gear'.

If you do your homework and check things out get loads of pictures then buying 2nd hand can save you a tonne of money. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

My tech 1210's MK3D were second hand and are still going strong 4 years later.

Serato was second hand for me and worked perfectly for me for 2 years. Not a single scratch on the box yet got it for a significantly cheaper price (from someone on here actually).

I've bought 2 amplifiers for my car (A Genesis and DLS) Both were bought for 50% of their original value, saved 1000 euro on them. They're still playing fine 6 years later.

Do your homework, be patient and get yourself some second hand tech 1200/1210's MK2 if you don't mind the quartz lock feature.

You could find them easily enough for 250 a table.

Buy yourself some new carts and styli if you want and you're onto some sturdy gear that will do the job you want for a lot less than shelling out 450/550 a table.

Definitely go 2nd hand.

Yeah I agree with buying 2nd hand. Its just gonna take a little bit more time to find some!

BTW can you explain what the quartz lock feature is? I tried to google it but couldn't find much.
