Why do YouTube versions differ from downloadables?

Hey everyone, I'm new to trance and this forum. However, I've been so mesmerized by trance that I've been on a quest to find the best songs out there.

I've listened to songs on YouTube and really enjoyed it, and then after I download the actual file elsewhere I notice the songs are different. Neither of them are advertised as a mix. For example, Chicane-Offshore on YouTube has much more bass, and has a quicker pace than the one I've downloaded.

Now I can't just rip the songs off YouTube because of course, the quality is low.

Does anyone have any insight into this matter?

Thanks.

maybe the clip on youtube was the disco citizens remix and your "downloadable" was the original? who knows.

anyway i wouldn't trust any track names on youtube and depending on where your "downloadables" come from, i wouldn't trust them either…

This has nothing to do with your question but you said you're looking or good tracks so here are some, imo

Gouryella - Gouryella
Eternal Dream (Ian Betts rmx) - Vicky Devine Pres. Saphara
The Eternal (Re:Locate rmx) - Hydroid
Carry Me Away - Chris Lake
Rain - Armin van buuren

That's just what I've been listening to lately.

As skip said.. but i'll say it again..

Probably 90% of video clips on Youtube feature some kind of mislabeling (or lack actual info) in the artist and/or track names, mainly due to the "source" tracks being labeled that way already and most people who have come up with the incorrectly titled videos, don't even know any better or just enjoy confusing people intentionally.

Also, if by downloadables you mean tracks downloaded through P2P softwares or some other less official ways of downloading, i wouldn't trust them either as the various mixes and remixes of well known tracks can often be renamed/mislabeled there and mixed up with other tracks completely.

It's a bit hard to say anything more without a youtube link or samples to the exact versions you're talking about so i dug up a few Youtube clips as examples and if necessary, corrected the titles. Other versions not mentioned below usually do feature the remix titles.

Offshore (Disco Citizens Edit]
- Listed as Offshore, without a mention of actually being the remix version.
- The radio/video edit of the remix, full length version is over 9 minutes long.
- Disco Citizens is also an alias of Chicane.

Offshore '97
- Vocal version of Offshore (Disco Citizens Remix) with Louise Burton on the vocals, which have been taken from Power Circle - A Little Love A Little Life.
- Started out as a mashup bootleg by Anthony Pappa and became an official release soon after.

Offshore 2007
- Chicane's own 2007 vocal rework of Offshore; an instrumental version also exists.

Offshore (Original Mix)
- The original laid back version.

It's because the youtube are rips from compilations or usually live sets where the BPM is modified or equalizers used. They aren't tagged as live mixes because people are idiots.

this & am i right in saying radio show compressors is another reason?they are the ones i find most of the time,

though i have heard countless times of tracks been labeled as by tiesto & others simply because they are on his compilations etc & other tracks endlessly reworked & rereleased.

Given his explanation it's fairly obvious that he is talking about the different versions of Offshore as previously mentioned by Skip and Grim and not what you have mentioned here

Thanks to everyone who responded, and a special thanks to GrimReaper who gave the perfect answer that I was looking for. The downloadables that I refer to are from torrent sites of mixtapes. I'm not sure who put them together, but the quality is usually around 320kbps opposed to a YouTube rip of 64kbps.

@Xan, this is true. I was looking for Goldenscan-Sunrise and only found it under a Tiesto discography.

@Floyd, I'm definitely going to check out those songs, thanks!
