Agreed, that was an incredible night. My only complaint is that it didn't last another three hours. I'm a little shocked at the low turnout, though. At around 2:00am, it seemed that the crowd wasn't even 1/3 as dense as Armin's, even though the patio was open during AVB's Wednesday show. What's with that? I enjoyed the extra breathing room, but I don't want Schulz to avoid Atlanta next year. I also enjoyed Schulz's sets (this year and last year) over Armin's. Strange, since I generally prefer Armin's productions and radio shows.
And, likewise, nice meeting all of you. I'm still not seeing the glasses, though.

I think what they were seeing is that little spot of light by your right eye that kind of looks like the edge of glasses.
Anyways, good to see everyone. It was an amazing night! Markus was on fire and just never let up. Had a great track selection. Nice job with the tracklist James. That's amazing you were able to get most of the tracks. Hope Markus didn't mind the crowd dwindling towards the end. Not to mention the crowd wasn't packed in to begin with. I loved the extra space, but I want him to come back. It made it easier to get my picture with him even though, once again, Opera's staff was pushing us out before 3. He's a cool guy though. Great set from a great dj!

That is exactly what I'm seeing!
But ya...I love that fucking tracklist man...Matt was asking me what the first few songs were, but I didn't know them, but that's because they're still listed as "id - id" in the GDJB's and live sets and what not haha.
I'm sure Markus will be back in the future though. This was about the same size crowd he saw last September and he came back 7 months later...so...
I expect him to make a pretty big splash in the DJMag rankings at the end of the year too, so going forward in 2010, he'll probably get even more exposure.
His Dakota album he's releasing in a few months is going to be huge.

Yeah, the crowd wasn't really small, just seemed to die down towards the end. I think he'll move up in the rankings. Probably top 5. I don't know if the big 3 can be beaten even though he should be number 1. Honestly, I like how his shows aren't packed to the brim. I'd hate for his shows to turn into an Armin or Tiesto circus.
Looking forward to that Dakota album!

yeah, that spot of light next to your head in the avatar does make it look like you might have glasses on calamar. haha, i guess i'm the one that might need to get glasses!
well, thursday night was super fun on many different levels. i thought schulz's set was awesome... no lulls in track selection (no fluff). he just kept pouring it on. the middle to the end of his set, i was in heaven. even when i felt like i might not be able to dance anymore, the stuff he was playing was so sick that i had to keep moving. totally insane. of course, i'm not very good at id'ing tracks, so i wish i could be more descriptive. which, james, you did an awesome job at staying on top of that. when you turned to me and said "BIG SKY!" i was like oh shit! even though i couldn't id myself, obviously i've heard that track enough to know that there was going to be a huge release of energy on the dance floor!!!
that brings me to another reason why the night was so kick ass! meeting some of the TAs was super fun. james, zach, and calamar, what a fun time we had to see markus together. good times man! i mean markus WAS on fire, and to have had an opportunity to meet y'all in such an environment was totally grand. it made an excellent night of beats that much better. definitely looking forward to other shows and catching up.
and, i think aside from getting a chance to see markus, and some of my fellow TAs, the venue wasn't as packed. that extra dancing room was huge!!! i loved it! completely different crowd vibe than from the armin show. wow. i suppose that could have been presumed anyway, but i remember thinking how much different and better i was feeling at markus than when i was at armin. personally, markus' set imo was hands down superior to armin's. no contest. the intensity of that harder tech-trance at the end was the bomb.
what an all-around excellent experience. also, it was super cool to debrief with james and zach after the show. next time, weather permitting, it will be fun to pre-game before the show!
certainly looking forward to it.
