addiction/recovery and safe clubbing

Just curious if there is anyone out there who has dealt with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol and after a process of recovery, continued to go to clubs and parties to see and hear djs. I'm talking about serious addiction problem, not just getting drunk a bit too often or going off the deep-end a few too many times. I'm talking about addiction in the sense that you went to rehab or went through a period of serious self-recovery in which your only safe option is permanent abstinence and going to clubs is considered "risky" because of the triggers.

I'm curious about what people's experiences were/are for themselves or others they may know who has suffered from addiction, yet manage to have a great time dancing and enjoying music clean and sober. I realize there are many many people out there who have a great time and never drink or drug to begin with, but I'm specifically curious about people recovering or are recovered from serious addiction problems.

to be fair, my situation was not as bad as some of the other addicts who were in my "rehab". my abuse of alcohol was really an addition to depression; not just an entity in its own. that and i just wanted to celebrate as much as i could before i left town. that, coupled with not really caring about much else except drinking, led me to get in pretty bad shape, especially at work.

i've been sober for over 5 months now. i've gone out to bars a few times, but just drank red-bull or nothing at all. it doesn't bother me to see others drink. and quite honestly, if i had one, i wouldn't be down the same path as i was. had i kept going like that for a few more months, its possible things could have gotten even more out of hand.

Do be honest people shouldn't look down at alcohol addicts like they aren't real addicts. Real alcohol addiction is nasty, and it kills more people than any other drug in our society.

Not only can someone die in the obvious way from alcohol, such as accidents/trauma situations, but the withdrawal from heavy addiction can cause a serious syndrome that can manifest as siezures or cardiac arrest. I've seen it in my work at the hospital. Basically the alcohol causes a down-regulation of neurotransmitters, and when the alcohol is no longer there, the body is compensating with a massive up-regulation of the same stuff. This is how to identify physical dependance to alcohol: when you start to feel a need to drink in order to relax.

Absolutely true. I know many people who have alcoholic fathers, or members of their family who are alcoholics, and it's one of the biggest destroyers of families in existence. People who drink to cope with problems just end up causing more of them. I know first hand, alcoholism is nothing to joke about, and it can ruin people's lives.

i don't really think people who party every weekend are addicted to drugs. it's more like they are addicted to fun.

if you're sitting home smacking up by yourself then yea...time for rehab. but if you're out every weekend dancing and going to parties and snorting coke and eating pills/drinking, you're just havin a good time and it should run its course and fade out as you get older. i mean that's what is supposed to happen. lol

i still go out from time to time and i'm 27. i hate going out though, you'll always hear me bitching about paying $14 for a rum n coke. i'm like a grumpy old jew man. but then after a few drinks i let it go and have a good time

that was the dumbest thing ive ever read on ta

addiction is a pattern, just like some people say "oh im not addicted to smoking i only have one smoke a day"

but you have that one smoke a day and need it, so there is an addiction. sure you can "quit at anytime" and not smoke that cigg for the one day, but the truth is as long as your having that one a day you are addicted. Same with soing drugs only on weekends. sure its not a full blown addictionwhere u need it every minute, but your addicted to it because you need it on the weekend.

addicted to fun lol. ur fuckin vag is addicted to fun
