Introversion

I find myself totally introverted to the point of being angry when I have to deal with situations involving more than a few of my close friends.

I can go maybe a day with dealing with groups of people I don't know very well, but after that I just kinda go "fuck this" and shut down and become bitter.

I also enjoy being alone but get jealous of other people when they go out and do something fun, even if I am totally unrelated to the people doing it.

ahhh FML /emothread

I kinda understand what you're saying, in a less bitter way. In the past year or so, I find myself actively avoiding social situations I would have gladly underaken in the past... and staying at home doing nothing instead. If I had enough money to retire, I think I'd be perfectly happy moving to some remote sea-side town in Italy or something where I don't know anybody and don't have any obligations to talk to people or be around people I recognize. lol

That's one reason I use the Internet so much. You get to interact with other minds, but without all the hassle of obligations and having to set up times to meet and pick places to go. It's easier. And it's also much less difficult to find people who share your interests.

The urge in me to pick up and leave everything and just go away someplace and never talk to my friends or family again is very strong.

The odd part is that I have no ill will towards any of them. It just feels like I need to GTFO.

Yea, I like the internet becsuse there is no obligation to continue communication...

If I were to talk about this in real life... either people wouldn't care or they'd care too much.

If I want to I can go to bed right now. No obligation to continue talking at all.

I is introvert. Retail selling and customer service are two things I won't ever do.

What I find disturbing is that I see that it works the other way round for more and more people.

You might use the Internet alot because of your introversion, but many people are becoming more and more introvert (or even antisocial) because they spend so much time on the Internet.

I am getting more and more introverted too. And I am in the selling business. I fucking hate small talk.

Some of the feelings posted here aren't due to introversion, they're symptoms of other issues that are best dealt with in therapy, and I really recommend doing so if it's affecting your life. You'll be so much happier if you do, and it's usually covered by major health-care providers.
For those with actual introversion, check out a book called 'The Introvert Advantage" (I forget the author). It gives lots of insight into the condition, and ideas on how to deal with most situations that extroverts seem to have no problem with. Introversion seems limiting, and it can be in many ways that extroverts take for granted, but it has some pretty amazing positive traits too.
As for using the internet to fill social needs, it really only works a little bit. Being around friends or people you feel comfortable with fills a basic human need. The brain actually releases a chemical when you socialize (in person). I'm not saying it doesn't work at all, I do it, just that if you're using it for a majority of your social interaction, it's not healthy.
