I've been experimenting with using a vocoder on percussive sounds. I find that if you use a kick, hat, or clap to modulate a fairly rich carrier sound, you can come up with some pretty interesting stuff:

Sounds pretty good..Which vocoder did you use to do this? I've never been able to figure out how to work a vocoder!

I used Reason's built-in vocoder. I'll probably start playing around with NI's "Vokator" soon and seeing what sort of sounds I can get out of that, too.

One thing I like about Reason's vocoder is that you can also use it as a 32-band EQ. You can get some interesting effects with extreme EQ settings:

these samples of you btw are very good!
thats a cool idea... Interesting for a breakdown. One of the big vocoders is NI Vokator. Getting it later this week as part of Komplete. I used a resonator (The Ableton Live one) on a drum loop on something I was screwing around with, sounded pretty cool esp. on the reverse snare hits! I think a vocoder sounds similar but with much more control over the sound right?

Megabump!
Been experimenting with this once again, and I'm finding it's really nice for getting shimmering ambient textures. This is a basic synth sound in Reason (one Subtractor) run through a vocoder and modulated by a piano passage:
It has some added spaciness due to being run through a couple of oscillating filters attached to delays. Here's how the delays sound with more staccato stuff rather than a pad:
