Yeah it is, but there aren't a lot of bars without music licenses. I take it they've actually told you they haven't got a music licence?

I think I'm right in saying you can DJ (play recorded music, in legal terms) under the same licence that allows you to have the radio or a CD on in the background. So if you've ever heard any music in there, then they've probably got a sufficient licence. But don't quote me on that.

If it was just a member of bar staff that said they don't want one, remember they probably don't know what they're talking about so question it with the manager.

It does mention a minimum annual royalty - I'm not sure exactly how that works, so phone them for more info. Don't bother emailing them cos they take months to reply.
