a lot of big dj's these days are mixing with Ableton, and i have to admit are sounding pretty good. But for some reason it bothers me when i try and figure out how much of what they are doing is on the spot and how much of it is pre-recorded. I mean, essentially, you could pre-record your whole set beforehand, hit the play button, and then just randomly twist knobs to make it look like you're actually doing something. When I watch/listen to sets by some of these artists (justice, deadmau5, gui boratto, daft punk) i notice that a lot of their sets in different cities are exactly the same. If they are planning on playing exactly the same set across the globe, then why WOULDNT they pre-record the whole thing? then we get to the question of why do we even need the dj there, are we paying money to basically listen to record player? I duno, maybe i got this all wrong, but help me out and lemme know wat you think

mixing with ableton just removes the need to work on beatmatching as it does it for you & you can focus on the music you play but there is still a lot of work involved with mixing in ableton (its not an easy software to learn).

Basic mixing with ableton is simple as piss to learn.

And it also makes it easier to do "live edits" to a prerecorded string of music. Ableton is NOT a DJ mixing program.

that depends on what type of document you are typing...

i also think that one of the functions of ableton is to be able to mix, granted it is not the only and most essential but everything is around the fact that you CAN mix with ableton live.

Eh, It is a mixing program, it has all the functionality to achieve mixing, it just has a lot more room to do different things.

A DJ is only as good as the record he plays anyways, besides DJs are measured more and more by their productions and not actual DJ skills.

There is however a huge difference in the skill of being able to beatmatch, and let Ableton do all the work. The former actually requires some or a lot of training.
