KRK RP6's

So, I'm not very rich. Until now, I haven't considered changing out my Logitech-Z5500 speakers for some actual monitors. I always told myself I wouldn't actually throw down hard-earned dollars for anything more until I actually put together a few mixes, even if they weren't that great. Well, I've done that, and now its time to go for something in the mid-low range of monitor quality. In light of that, I came across the KRK RP6's.

Do any of you guys have any enlightening experiences or horror stories with these that can guide me towards a buy or don't buy? I appreciate your feedback.

I haven't used the KRKs, but I would recommend considering the Yamaha HS50Ms, which appear to be in the same general price range. I have their bigger brothers (HS80Ms) and they're great monitors for the money. If you have the opportunity, give the HS50Ms a listen.

I have the RP5s. Bought them as entry level monitors to get into production and plan to upgrade them when I feel production is something I could be competent at.

As an entry level monitor they're great. I demo'd them to my mate yesterday and he was surprised how loud and clear they were. The 6s would give you slightly more bass extension but if your planning on getting better monitors later anyway the 5s would be a good starting point.

I got KRK RP6 G2, and I'm pretty happy with them. They don't particularly excel in any area, but they're really well rounded up, though need for outside soundcheck is definitely needed, they can make stuff sound too good sometimes, definitely check mixes on some crap speakers (logitech computer speakers are actually excellent for the checking job), they usually point out mistakes done in the mix.

They're not the mother of all monitors, but a damn good buy for that money, they won't make your ears tired and are enjoyable to work on, and still give a pretty decent sound picture.

I wouldn't count on them for doing anything else than EDM though

And do get the 6's. 5's suffer in low end, and 8's got proportionally too much bass, 6's are the best rounded ones.

I have RP5s that I hate. Selling them and upgrading ASAP but they were ok for a few years.

Thanks for the help guys. In the end, I actually got a DAMN good deal on a like new pair of Mackie MR5's (less than half price). I'm absolutely blown away by them.
