If it has beautiful rythm and a flowing chord line , and its production is flawless. I dunno it could be to 2004 and wont rock the floors like the chain women sheep song. , Where is the next demo?

No im saying if it is ' in ' , it'll be released , if it is a beautiful piece of music , but wil fail to please what is ' in ' , probably it wont be considered. , its pop music culture , its just spreading thats all.

Something that I have noticed is the increasing amount of labels that pretty much give out the impression that they put out everything they receive.

It's not restricted to digital labels. But yeah, it is much more common in labels that only release digitally.

having been a buyer for the trance & prog house section at a record store, I'd say it's safe to say that that everyone across the board has gotten less selective, even the big labels. i used to spend an inordinate amount of time listening to everything online to decide what to bring into the shop, and it used to drive me batshit crazy to have to waste a chunk of my Fridays to do it.

What one has to wade through on one site like Beatport makes what I used to do seem like a walk in the park. I used to listen to EVERY single new vinyl release, to find those gems at a rate of about 10% of everything newly released. Now? easily 1% or less.

Vinyl has higher costs involved, and more risk to the label. MP3's don't have that risk involved, other than ruining the reputation of their label. Sadly, it seems as if the people running digital labels don't have clue how to discern the good from the bad. Even with crap record labels, you could occasionally find a b-side gem. Not seeing much of it in the digital world.

Exactly! Since it's much easier and cheaper to put it out there nearly anything that sounds half decent will get released. Some labels do this more than others. I guess there are still some labels around that value their reputation for quality whereas others just release anything and everything.

it depends on the label really.

if you look at the established labels, not too many of them release 5 ep's a week like the upstart mp3 only labels.
