The Trance scene is great in Britain, but in London specifically the scene is mostly house/garage.

Gatecrasher now have a monthly night at Heaven in London. I am not sure where you can find listings of that though, they don't seem to be on the Crasher site.

Haha, if only you knew! The trance scene is exploding in London, but on a more underground, smaller basis. It's going back where it belongs - the rave scene. People are rebelling against big-name DJs who are often not as good as the up-and-comings.

For a more commercial sound and a wicked party atmosphere, try Planet Angel @ The Arches, London Bridge, or for harder stuff try Undertow or Natural Order at Medussa.

I haven't been to a big-name club in years - they just don't do it for me! I like to be able to meet and chat to the people that run the club.

Just remember that famous does not always = good! In big name clubs with big name DJs, the big name DJs get the good slots where they are able to play the wicked tunes that everyone loves, and the lesser known residents and guests get the earlier sets where they are not allowed to really kick it off - as such it appears that the big name for the night really ruled when in fact the residents could have done just as well.

A bit like at a rock concert - the support bands always have the sound turned down - as such they are always eclipsed by the headline band who come on a million decibels louder. It's the way it works.

So... go to a GOOD club with no big name DJs and you'll find that the lesser known DJs there will give you just as good a time, and very often will be that bit hungrier and more edgy.

To round off that rant, a club not listing any DJs you've heard of means nothing!

In faaaact, very often clubs with big name DJs are just places for people to hang out and look cool, or go to drunk, and not get down to some serious dancing. More undergroundy places are entirely populated by people that *luvvit*.

What i find with underground DJ's is that they try and play the old cliche of "underground style" which may not be most peoples cup of tea, or what theyre expecting neither.

No, that's just *shit* DJs. A good DJ will always play what the crowd want (unless they've been booked for the wrong night and don't have the right stuff with them - in which case if they have any self respect they will give up their slot).

If you go to a club and the DJ is not playing what the crowd want and expect then he is doing a bad job, plain and simple. Although bear in mind that for early sets in a night the DJ will deliberately hold back, so you might be thinking "this is OK..." and dancing around a bit... but this is all in order to build things up.
