...construction kits? And why is my inbox being bombarded with spam advertising these? I've heard of them, but I don't see anybody talking much about them. From what I can tell, they seem to be all the little puzzle pieces (MIDI and audio clips) to put together a pre-made track or remix? Is that it? How else do people use them?

Maybe I'm wrong, but they seem like a great tools for making producers even lazier.

Yes, thats what a construction kit is. For example some layers that make up a groove. Some construction kits have quite nice drum/percussion loops that are usable, but thats pretty much it.
