I'm not trying to flog a dead horse here or anything but I'm just curious. I've recently been having thoughts of selling my 1210's.

I don't really want to if I'm honest with myself as I've always enjoyed playing on them. But for the last few years I've been using Serato and Traktor and never ever play vinyl on them any more.

There's no way I could afford to buy cdj1000's so the 800's are the only option I'm considering. I'm just wondering whether there's any point in me splashing what will probably cost me an additional 500euro after selling my 1210s.

Using CDj's to manipulate the time code cd's, is it tighter/easier to move the cd's in smaller increments. Would there be any other added benefit apart from the fact that I could play cd's as well?

I dunno, I'm not 100% convinced that I'd have more fun on the 800's but I've never played on CDJ's before and would think using these would give me much needed practice before I finally play out somewhere.

End of the day I love using my 1210's, rocking up to a house party with them is always great fun and people seem to enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy using them. I guess I might just have 'the itch' for something new.

Don't.

If you're already using Serato, you might as well continue. If you really want to play on CDs, you could play it off of the CD drive with Serato (I think it supports this feature). I think it's much more enjoyable to play on turntables than CDs, and I'd stick with what you have since it's sufficient for your purposes.

You do have a valid point about playing out, though. I'm sure most everywhere have CDJs, and they are much less of a fuss and less maintenance- a big plus for venues.

I know I'm not really adding much about the technical aspects of CDJs and Serato, but I'd go with what your gut feeling is. I would see if I could try CDJs out to see if it scratches your itch or to see if you really like them.

if they're not in the booth, they should be in the building somewhere if you play out, most places will be able to hook up the TTs if you ask them to beforehand

if you want to learn to play on cdjs, swap tables with someone that has them for a little bit to learn the ins and outs, or just go buy a pair of 200's, that's what i did

tech 1200's are the best choice a dj can make, mine are never going anywhere

In all honestly, you'll miss your techs.
I run both techs and 800 mk2's and even though I love my 800's, I'd miss my tech too much.

The 800's are tight and feel good, but the tactile relationship is just no the same techs. If you ditch the 1200's you'll always be missing something....

Don't ditch the Tech 12's, there's something about them thats very desirable, I guess its the analogue feel. When i use cd players, the music feels boring and the stereo width feels lower.

As i switched to a pure midi setup, i miss my techs more and more. Now that im fairly proficient with most setups, vinyl is the one i miss the most. Ill probably end up getting a pair of technics mk2s sometime soon to accompany my 4d.. its just so much easier controlling the tracks.

This is coming from a guy who prefers CDJs too haha!

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess it's a no brainer so. I'll keep em. Always liked the fact that they were the MK3D's as well so I never really wanted to get rid of them as it was difficult enough finding a good pair (at the time 5 years ago).

Sometimes I just felt that the timecode vinyl wasn't giving me enough control, you'd rub the record but it wouldn't adjust accordingly etc etc. All part of the fun i suppose but annoying when you want to make the smallest of increments.

Having said that and on the plus side, I've started to ride the pitch a lot more and find it relatively easy these days which is great.

As I don't have the money and I'm about to go back to Uni for my second undergraduate (don't ask!) I'll save my money and keep the techs

DJRANN - Haven't been playing on the vestax for a while, it's just sitting in a box at this stage and yes i've been tempted to sell that too. Although I'd probably only get around 175 euro for it.

WOSCAR - I'm in the process up building a new website to host my mixes. I've only recorded about 10 at this stage as I only started recording some around the end of may. I mainly spin Tech House/Progressive with a lot of Tribal techy stuff creeping through at the moment as well, can't get enough of it.

Kind of an off-topic comment, but if you were considering selling your techs, I would wait until 6-12 months after 'DJ Hero' is released. I'm sure there would be more demand from wannabe DJs then...

And then 3 months after that you could pick up a pair of cheap 1200's because the supply exceeds the demand of the market.

Very true mate, didn't even think about that.

Although as you can see from above, think I'll be holding on to them. Until I can actually afford to buy some CDJ's straight out without selling something else I own.

Who knows maybe the Dj Booth will pick up with all these new Dj Hero users

keep the techs. honestly, even CDJ 400s are better than 800s imo. main reason I got the 400s are that it's a bit cheaper and that it can ipods/USB devices. when I'm just chilling out I don't have to use my ipod dock anymore I just plug up my ipod to my CDJs and have a superior sound system to any ipod dock in the market.

the only real difference 400s and 800s have technically is the larger jog wheel. unless you scratch, it won't matter since you can get the same precision in cueing with the search << >> buttons which I love using and are in the 400s, 800s and 1000s.

You have tech 1210s and a Xone 92 along with serato + laptop right? That's the perfect setup imo. Except maybe I prefer traktor scratch.
