Cleaning Records: Cleaning kits, Soap, SODA???

Hey Guys, Well, is the time to clean my records, Im gonna Rip thems to My PC and I want the best Quality I can get, I Always was wondering this, There are specials Cleaning Kits with a brush, but does that actually worth??, I can save that money to buy a pair of Records, but if I have to buy the cleaning Kit, I will, but I have heard from some guys here that SODA can Work to Clean Vinyl, And a DJ near from my Local Residence told me that he mix water with some soap, and he put it on the vinyl with a soft brush, he says that always have worked for him, i dont know if he is Alright, then I know some of u may know the good way to do it,.. so, what do u think about it, what is better??, SODA??, SOAP with water??.. or just buy a Cleaning kit??, BTW: one day I think i read a guy saying that some Cleaning kits for Records are BAD... I dont have experience in this.... so, I hope u can Help me Here, if u have other Choices put thems here.

Thanks, Carlos.

I just started purchasing vinyls and such. I bought Stantons kit. I t has a brush and cleaning solution. From what I have been told water and handsoap will clean a vinyl fine but the purpose of the special cleaning kits you see isnt just for cleaning. They put a anti-static protection on the vinyl to help repell dust. Thats all I know, hope it helps some.

I use gruv-glide on my new records, cuz it gets rid of dust, and keeps the record anti-static so dust doesn't stick to it. Only hafta apply it once. after that, I just blow dust off or give it a rub with my shirt or something.

When ever I’m spinning I always have one of those anti-static cloths with me. Before I play a tune I give it a quick wipe to help keep them dust free! This will help in the long run to keep that dreaded dust away!

Also be careful, when cleaning, if you live in a hard water area, otherwise you might get a horrid build-up on your vinyl. Not good at all
