It's possible your brother is connecting at 1gb, and you're connecting at 100mb. Assuming you're both using wired connections.
Make sure you have a network card capable of connecting at 1gb, and a decent cat6 cable and try again.
You could just try borrowing your brothers cat6 cable.
If you're using wireless then upgrade your card to something capable of N, and make sure your wireless router is capable of communicating at this speed.
If your brother is using a wired connection, and you are using a wireless connection, go and think about what an idiot you are for posting here.
And don't use those shitty speed testers - they mean nothing. Go to download.microsoft.com and grab a large file like XPSP3 and see how quick that comes down. 500kb a second is equal to 4 megabits. Try a few different sites.
You also might like to tell us what simple things you've already tried, just so I can laugh at you.
Also, ask yourself, did it REALLY matter BEFORE you knew your brothers machine was getting a faster net connection?
